Robin Lurie has been playing drums since he was 12. In his twenties he became interested in Brazilian and Cuban music and studied with the well-known percussionist Robin Jones. He recorded and toured with bands on the Acid Jazz label in the early nineties and took part in the Notting Hill carnival with the samba bloco Academicos de Madureira in 1994, which inspired him to travel to Brazil to develop his skills.
He spent the next two years working, living and studying in the artistic and cultural centres of Olinda and Salvador and twice played in the well-known Olinda samba bloco, Os Patuscos, during carnival.
When he returned to the UK he played and recorded with a number of artists and DJ’s, and for TV and film productions.
In 2000, Robin began running samba and general percussion workshops for adults. When he later trained to become a primary school teacher, he became interested in teaching drumming skills to children and set up Bish Bash Bosh in 2013.
Robin currently runs a successful children's samba bloco, HazeSamba, and a children's cajon group, The Box Beaters.
